The successful candidate will possess strong oral, written and verbal communication skills, be able to articulate complex legal matters, and exhibit creativity and innovation in their role as an assistant attorney general. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The Charitable Law Section is committed to honoring the important role of non-profits in Ohio. This duty, rooted in common law and reinforced through many statutory provisions, is one of the Attorney General's oldest responsibilities. Assistant Attorneys General in the Charitable Trust Unit lead investigative teams comprised of investigators, charitable funds auditors, and compliance examiners to investigate abuse of charities and fundraising fraud. In cases that result in civil litigation, Charitable Trust attorneys will serve as lead counsel through all phases of civil litigation from drafting and filing complaints, discovery, settlement negotiations, motion practice, trial, and appeal. In criminal matters, the Charitable Trust attorney may assist local law enforcement or prosecute the matter from investigation, to indictment, to trial. Charitable Trust attorneys also represent the Attorney General as a statutory party in all probate cases involving a charitable trust and may assist in drafting legislation and administrative rules related to the regulation of charities and charitable gaming in Ohio. Applicants should possess significant litigation experience, including excellent research and writing skills, and have the proven ability to work proactively, think creatively, and handle complex matters.
