What does a typical day at the Ohio County Family Support Center look like? That depends! The focus of our work is being a partner to parents, helping them nurture and support their children using the Protective Factors Framework. This support includes peer-to-peer groups, skill building classes, parent-child events, evidence based parenting classes, and concrete support.

The Family Support and Resource Specialist is responsible for managing and organizing client cases, providing direct support and resources to individuals and families in need, and advocating with families. This role requires an empathetic, compassionate, and nonjudgmental professional dedicated to improving the well-being of vulnerable populations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Client Support & Advocacy:

  • Assess client needs and develop tailored care strategies.
  • Connect clients with resources for housing, employment, healthcare, legal aid, education, childcare and other needs as identified by parents.
  • Advocate for clients by raising awareness of their needs and ensuring access to necessary services, including cases where the child welfare system is involved.

Case Management:

  • Manage case assignments, develop individualized plans, track client progress, and strengthen participation on Family Support Center programs.
  • Maintain detailed, confidential case records and document all client interactions and services provided.
  • Regularly reassess clients' progress and adjust plans as needed.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with support networks, government agencies, and community resources.
  • Meet regularly with clients to assess their progress and address new challenges.
  • Collaborate with service providers and community partners to address resource-related concerns.
  • Attend trainings and meetings to enhance professional skills and represent the Family Support Center.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, social services, public administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with youth, families, and vulnerable populations preferred.
  • Strong communication and teaching skills to empower and nurture clients.
  • Ability to work independently while demonstrating teamwork and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in using computers for data entry and reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and car insurance.
  • High ethical standards, with no criminal history or founded child/adult abuse/neglect record.

Supervision:

Reports to the Family Support Center Director. This role does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Travel & Special Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel for trainings and meetings across the state 2-3 times per year.
  • Promote the Family Support Center through community outreach and networking.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental attitude toward clients.
  • Knowledge of local and government resources and services.
  • Capability to teach and guide families in setting and achieving case goals.

Key Functional Areas:

  • Connecting Clients with Resources: Facilitating access to essential programs and services.
  • Monitoring Progress: Evaluating client outcomes and reassessing needs over time.
  • Care Coordination: Ensuring seamless delivery of services from various providers.
  • Advocacy: Acting as a champion for client needs within the community and service system.

21 hours hours per week with potential for increased hours as case load increases, $17/hr.

As a small organization, we do not have the ability to offer health insurance but do provide a small monthly health care stipend (part-time is pro-rated to $86/month)

PTO and flexible schedule.
