Job Summary:
Responsibility for cleaning and routine care maintenance of scopes and equipment used in endoscopy unit. Facilitate quality patient care and assist professional and/or nursing staff in performing nursing procedures.
Working Conditions:
Constant walking and standing. Exerts 10-25 lbs of force. Occasionally exerts up to 75 lbs of force. Intermittent stooping, crouching, kneeling, overhead and below level reaching and lifting. May carry 10-15 lbs; rarely lifts a maximum of 50 lbs.
Job Relationships:
Is responsible to the Clinical Supervisor and other Endoscopy Nursing staff.
Responsibility 1:
Plans to prepare for patient care
- Washes hands before assuming morning tasks and prior to delivering patient care.
- Prepare patient rooms and wipe down all equipment.
- Helps prepare procedure room prior to each procedure. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of a clean environment.
- Assist with receiving patients by obtaining base line vitals, height and weight upon admission.
- Assists with pulling supplies, equipment and instruments for procedures after checking with physician concerning the equipment concerning the equipment or supplies.
- Assists in the proper preparation of supplies, medication equipment and instrumentation involved in patient care.
Responsibility 2:
Correctly identifies patient. Provides additional instruction.
- Introduces self and team members to patients and their families/care persons
- Identifies patient by using a least two identifiers (name and DOB), verbally and by checking ID bracelet. Offers a brief explanation of health team members role.
- Assists in transporting or escorting patient to procedure room.
Responsibility 3:
Assures patient safety. Maintains environment.
- Enters data correctly into the Patients Medical Record or Nursing Record Flowsheet.
- Positions patient safely, properly and comfortably according to his/her specific needs and those required by the procedure.
- Maintains a constant vigilance on activities observing for safety practices, while keeping room as orderly and neat as possible.
- Assists physician with procedure.
- Sets up and prepares equipment for use during the procedure.
- Procures unanticipated items as needed for members of the team during procedure.
- Disinfects equipment post procedure per protocol.
- Dons and remove gloves properly.
- Keeps supervisor, nurse and care person informed of patients needs and progress.
- Pain management
Responsibility 4:
Assures continuity of patient care during post-procedure phase:
- Assists in transportation or escort or patient to recovery area.
Responsibility 5:
Performs other related duties
- Assists with room clean-up, turn-over and stocking.
- Checks procedure equipment to include all emergency equipment, prior to the first endoscopy case of the day.
- Practices economy in the use of time, equipment and supplies.
- Develops effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Frequently accesses email to stay up to date on information within the organization and provides a way of communication between staff members
- Performs all procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures of OCH and adheres to legal compliance policies and other regulatory issues

Physical:
Good physical health required because of long periods of standing, walking and work required. Must be well coordinated and able to move about freely. Dexterity necessary. Mental:
Must demonstrate the following: Stamina to withstand stress and strain; good memory; patient and tactful; emotional stability; ability to both listen and direct; skill in organization.
Education and licensure: CNA or Sterile Processing certification preferred. BLS required or obtains within six months of employment.
Experience: A minimum of two years endoscopy experience desired.
Job Skills and Requirements:
- Must be in above average physical and mental health.
- Must possess and demonstrate good communication skills.
- Adequate understanding of a wide variety of medical/surgical terminology and pathophysiology endoscopy procedures and required patient preparations.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to implement principles of aseptic technique. Knowledge of basic infection control practices.
- Knowledge of endoscopy instruments and equipment to include the use, handling and care, especially of endoscopy equipment.
- Knowledge of the organizations mission, plans for improvement, policies, procedures, philosophies standards, goals and objectives, especially those pertaining to the endoscopy room, safety, security and fire emergency.
- Recognize and report hazardous equipment.
- Dresses within the dress code requirements of the facility.
