Job Title: Recycling Center Attendant
Reports to: Recycling Center Lead
Job Summary:
This position is for 20-25 hours a week during The Highlands Recycling Center's open hours - Tuesdays 7am-3pm, Thursdays 11am-7pm, and Saturdays 8am-12pm. This is NOT a county position and it does NOT come with benefits.
The Recycling Center Attendant will be responsible for ensuring that all community members that visit the OCSWA center have their materials prepared and sorted such that they can be accepted, communicating all pertinent information to the general public regarding recycling & proper waste disposal rules, upcoming events, and answering inquiries in such a way that upholds the OCSWA mission statement.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Open and Close center
- Direct all community traffic through the facility
- Assist community members with the unloading of their recyclable materials
- Ensure that only accepted materials are being collected, and that they are being sorted in the correct repository
- Educate community members on what they can do with items we cannot accept
- Share any upcoming events or initiatives sponsored and/or hosted by OCSWA with community members
- Maintain a clean and organized environment
- Answer all phone calls and coordinate with Tire Collection Staff to schedule WVDEP REAP tire appointments
- Provide support at all OCSWA events
- Maintain all collection containers in such a way that safely maximizes allotted space and ensures integrity of the recycling program
- Maintain accurate records and detailed reports
- Work independently with minimal supervision and complete work in a timely manner
- Use sound judgment and friendly customer service mindset in applying knowledge and skills in all types of situations.
- Assist with repurposing and upcycling educational projects
- Other duties as directed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service experience
- Ability to lift at least 20 pounds at a time
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking
- Ability to function well in a high-paced environment
- Ability to perform duties during frequent and extended periods of outside work, subject to all weather conditions and extremes
- Ability to work with youth volunteers
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a good driving record (preferred)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
