What You'll Do :

Responsible for overall design, maintenance & implementation of secured network architecture (e.g., firewalls, user authorization systems, virtual private networks, intrusion detection systems, high availability systems, load balancers) :

  • Administers network services in large production environment (i.e., more than 500 remote locations) network that includes data circuits such as T1, DS3, OC3, Metro Ethernet & network equipment (e.g., switches, routers, firewalls)
  • Supervises network infrastructure personnel (i.e., reviews network functioning, procedures & documentation, monitors work in progress, orients & trains new staff & recommends training seminars & classes for staff)
  • Assists staff in resolving difficult networking problems & answers technical questions
  • Establishes & enforces Infrastructure Services Division's (ISD) network unit policies & procedures
  • Conducts staff meetings
  • Prepares ISD network unit budget & participates in long-range planning; assigns & prioritizes projects & tasks
  • Ensures patches & upgrades are installed & appropriate security is maintained
  • Establishes & enforces unit policies & procedures
  • Maintains communications with customer contacts
  • Responds to customer inquiries & requests for information
  • Acts as a liaison to other technical sections & departments
  • Responds to network emergencies 24 hrs / day, 7 days / week
  • Is required to carry cell phone

Provides guidance & technical advice to the Office of Information Technology (OIT) management regarding analysis, planning & documenting Infrastructure Services Division (ISD) services :

  • Develops business cases as required to support strategic initiatives & associated service offerings if appropriate
  • Acts as liaison to data center facility staff on power and cooling needs, issues for infrastructure equipment.
  • Manages projects associated with PET initiatives
  • Manages power requirements for all new initiatives
  • Manages projects associated with extension & development of state owned or managed networks
  • Works with network providers, state & local governments, educational officials & business communities to market state provided services & telecommunications contract opportunities
  • Coordinate activities associated with broadband & outreach activities in support of broadband & initiatives (e.g. Co-Location)
  • Supports ISD router-based & switch-based network services while serving as a point of contact for all SOCC tenant & OIT alternative data centers & / or hosting sites regarding power requests & Colocation :

  • Manages SOCC tenant & ISD's remote datacenter(s) request for power & maintains the Master Project List (MPL)
  • Attends & supports the Resource Utilization Authority (RUA) meetings.
  • Assist SOCC facilities contractor with documentation of power authorization, works closely with facility contractor CBRE or ither entities to coordinate with tenants & all facility contractors & occupants, works closely with & acts as interface with facility contractor, General Services Division (GSD) & facility tenants & advises ISD management on all facility matters.
  • Provides advice on matters pertaining to facility infrastructure including energy savings techniques.
  • Manages installation & configuration of network hardware & software;
  • Provides after hour (outside of Call Center normal hours of operations) on call support on a weekly basis for standby engineers and supports escalated or critical (production down) network outages;
  • Maintains state-of-the-art awareness of current vendor network offerings, standards, industry best practices
  • Evaluates networking courses; cooperates with network management & support teams for inter-divisional connectivity solutions;
  • Attends networking seminars & conferences;
  • Reviews & evaluates networking hardware, security & software products;
  • Manages upgrades with other network & technical personnel;
  • Acts as liaison to Department of Administrative Services, IT Services and / or other departments and / or agencies, boards, commissions for linking or sharing computer & communications equipment

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications :

    ECNE or equivalent network certification; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory principles & techniques.

  • Or two or more of following or like network certifications : CNE, CBE & MCP : 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory principles & techniques.
  • Or 2 yrs. exp. as Network Administrator 3, 67133.
  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Network Administration Supervisor, 67135.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
