Ohio Department of Public Safety- Ohio State Highway Patrol

Work Hours: Rotating 24 Hour Shifts
Oversee all dispatching & related activities for assigned center & supervise Highway Patrol Radio Dispatcher (HPRD) personnel in the use of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS), Multi-Agency Radio Communication System (MARCS) Radios, & Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) in order to dispatch officers & equipment to assist the public & other agencies (i.e., provide direct supervision of HPRD staff in assigned dispatch centers (e.g., prepare schedules for personnel, handle payroll functions & entry, approve leave requests, complete performance evaluations & administer selection process by tracking applications & directing interviews, recommend selection of personnel, & make recommendations on staffing levels); provide guidance concerning dispatch operations, administer use of LEADS by supervising operator's use of & entries into system; develop & implement communication center programs &/or policies (i.e., review existing policies & procedures related to dispatching, advise & provide input on dispatching related issues to include, but not limited to, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), training & equipment needs); evaluate & identify possible training needs of staff & investigate possible Law Enforcement Automated Data System rule infractions (i.e., coordinate training of newly-hired employees through structured orientation program throughout division, oversee roll call training, policy & procedure, dispatch center specific training & training programs to provide pertinent & timely training)); Assist with administrative investigations concerning subordinate rule violations; Utilize CAD system to receive & transmit radio communications dispatching law enforcement, other state agencies, &/or equipment for the purpose of law enforcement, traffic control, accident investigation, motorist assistance & security; Operate LEADS terminal to receive & transmit messages.
Perform quality review checks (e.g., voice recorder, CAD Reporting, LEADS, & other dispatcher specific entries) & creates statistical reports for administrative staff.
Attend Dispatcher Supervisor In-Service; Assist District Staff with Quality Review Audits (QRA); Attend meetings with District Staff, Post Management Team, and Dispatch Management Team; Attend meetings concerning Highway Patrol dispatching and communications center for assigned area; Prepare & provide material relating to dispatch center audits; Perform other duties as assigned.
12 mos. exp. in operation of computer aided dispatch software; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in Federal Communication Commission rules & regulations; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. on Law Enforcement Automated Data System; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in employee training & development; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in public relations.
