Official Position Description
Under the direction of supervision in the county maintenance facility, assists higher level mechanics in maintenance, repair & replacement of major parts on cars, trucks & equipment. Uses hand & power tools in performing routine maintenance & minor repairs (e.g., changes oil & filters, replaces spark plugs, checks radiators, changes hoses, adds antifreeze, checks &/or replaces tires, lubricates vehicles & equipment, steam cleans engines & equipment). Repairs & replaces minor defective parts (e.g., hoses, distributor caps, windshield wiper blades, belts). Uses personal computer & software (e.g., Enterprise Information Management System (EIMS) & Graphical Query Language (GQL)) to enter & retrieve fuel & oil usage data.
Assists in the inspection of state vehicles (e.g., condition of tires, fan belts & hoses: checks batteries & engine oil & other fluids levels); delivers & picks up vehicles & equipment. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor (e.g., removes trash; ensures mechanic area is clean & orderly).
This is a temporary position involving various duties that will supplement the student's major field of study &/or provide experience that is a useful addition to the student's education & meaningful preparation for future professional employment.
This Position is Unclassified per Section 124.11(A)(29)
Must be currently enrolled in a college/university and in good academic standing prior to and during their entire appointment as a college intern. All College Interns are required to provide proof of enrollment, class status, and good academic standing with their college/university prior to beginning employment & throughout their time with ODOT in order to remain employed as a College Intern.
Acceptable forms of documentation include an official or unofficial transcript with current class schedule. If a transcript cannot be obtained the student’s advisor shall complete & sign the College Intern Verification Form indicating enrollment, class rank & GPA.
The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
