What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paid ODOT Surveyor College Internship, PN 20083573 position at Ohio Department of Transportation?
Under supervision & training, operates survey measuring devices (i.e., rod, chain, tape, plumb bob) & instruments (e.g., transit, automatic level; electronic distance measurer, total station, data collector) in order to obtain survey data & calculate precise measurements (e.g., elevations, horizontal & vertical lines, cross sections, curves angles).
Becomes familiar with PC based & mainframe CADD systems, micro-station, and various software packages used by the District, in the collection of survey data & the preparation of highway plans.
Operates state vehicle to travel to & from survey sites; clears brush & foliage from line of survey; locates &/or sets monuments, pins or stones; marks survey points for identification; takes field notes on topographic sketches; sets up traffic control (e.g., signs, cones); flags traffic through survey area.
Performs miscellaneous duties to facilitate operational efficiency of work unit (e.g., assists in maintenance of surveying equipment; cleans & services survey trucks/vans; stocks survey truck/van with necessary supplies & equipment for field work).
This is a temporary position involving various duties that will either supplement the student's major field of study and/or provide experience that is a useful addition to the student's education and meaningful preparation for future professional employment.
This Position is Unclassified per Section 124.11
Must be currently enrolled in a college/university and in good academic standing prior to and during their entire appointment as a college intern. All College Interns are required to provide proof of enrollment, class status, and good academic standing with their college/university prior to beginning employment & throughout their time with ODOT in order to remain employed as a College Intern.
Acceptable forms of documentation include an official or unofficial transcript with current class schedule. If a transcript cannot be obtained the student’s advisor shall complete & sign the College Intern Verification Form indicating enrollment, class rank & GPA.
