The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Drinking and Ground Waters (DDAGW), working at our Central Office in Columbus.
Ready to start?
As Ohio EPA’s environmental specialist, you’ll assist in the planning, coordination, and development of ground water protection programs for Class I wells, assisting in the development of regulations to control Class I injection wells and assisting in the preparation of guidance documents, technical criteria, and procedures for their monitoring and special investigations. You’ll investigate and evaluate geologic and hydrogeologic conditions around existing and proposed Class I injection wells, as well as review and evaluate geologic and hydrogeologic reports, permit applications, and other ground water related data.
You’ll attend meetings with agency staff and public officials to discuss site conditions, design requirements, and monitoring needs to abate ground water pollution impacts from Class I injection wells. You’ll directly inspect Class I facilities to determine compliance with regulations, review monthly operating reports for injection wells ensuring operations are in compliance. You’ll track the number of inspections and results, and recommend site follow ups as needed.
Additionally, you’ll prepare notices of violation to be forwarded to noncompliant facilities, as well as assist in the development of enforcement cases. Helping team Ohio EPA, you’ll provide technical assistance and information to agency staff, facility owners, consultants, and the public as needed, giving onsite and offsite technical assistance. You’ll participate in meetings, seminars, and training courses while also assisting in the development and implementation of Class I outreach and education.

- Or baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science field.
- Or positions involved in providing financial, technical & administrative assistance for planning, design & implementation of environmental infrastructure & pollution abatement, & prevention projects, applicants must have completed undergraduate core coursework in business/public administration, public relations/marketing, political science or communications, or have 4 yrs. exp. in position involving public contact to explain policies, procedures & programs of agency, writing of promotional &/or explanatory publications & materials, budgeting, contract administration & working with others on team projects. Note: For all positions engaged in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation. New employees in EPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.
