Medical Technologist (ASCP) Job Description
The Medical Technologist (ASCP) plays a critical role in the diagnosis and management of human illness by performing accurate, precise, and timely patient test results. This involves utilizing automation, computerization, and manual methods to ensure quality control and instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Specimens handled by Medical Technologists may be contaminated with infectious diseases, including HIV and other blood-borne pathogens, making it essential for individuals in this role to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., applied science or medical laboratory technology)
- MLT - Medical Laboratory Technologist Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- Two years of experience in a laboratory setting or formal military experience, followed by successful completion of the Board of Registry examination of the ASCP
