About the Job:
The Certified First Assistant in Surgery (CFA) provides assistance to the surgeon or group of surgeons during an operative procedure as a first or second assistant providing aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.Main Responsibilities:
- Provides assistance to the surgeon providing exposure, hemostasis, and other technical skills.
- Provides wound exposure through proper use of retractors so surgeon may clearly view operative site.
- Through use of suction and sponges, provides a dry field of operation to permit optimum vision of tissue, viscera, vessels, etc.
- Provides hemostasis by use of clamps, cautery, ligation
- Completes closure of fascia, subcutaneous tissue and skin under the direction of the surgeon
- Competent in 4-6 service lines, one of which must be advanced orthopedics, soft tissue robotics, complex cardiovascular, or neurosurgery (cranial).
- Assumes other tasks of a similar nature or level of responsibility when assigned by supervising physician.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology or combined ST/Health related Associate degree program or an Accredited First Assistant Program
- 2 years as a Surg Tech in an inpatient/OP main OR
- CSTF or SA-C required
- Preceptor
- BLS
- Must demonstrate basic critical thinking skills on their introductory team
- Will perform primary role independently
- Will demonstrate the ability to anticipate surgeon needs and communicates these with staff
- Will identify actual or potential emergency situations and intervene safely with assistance and/or supervision
- Competent in 4-6 service lines, one of which must be advanced orthopedics, soft tissue robotics,complex CV or neurosurgery (cranial).

Night shift.
40 hours per week.
