Supervises and is part of a shift that provides basic and advanced life support assistance for the care and treatment of sick and injured person(s).
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Physical Requirements: Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Requires the ability to traverse irregular or uneven terrain, or erratically moving surfaces. Must be able to bend downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscle. The ability to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s), and the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine is required. Must be able to move about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Requires the ability to reach, extending hand(s) in any direction; to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hand(s). Must be able to pick, pinch or otherwise work primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm. Must be able to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Requires the ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, work orders, logs, technical data, etc. Must be able to speak with clarity, voice control and confidence and to articulate information to others. Must be able to prepare written reports, using appropriate format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of emergency medicine and common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving variables in or from standardized situations; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract total, multiply and divide; use percentages and decimals.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be able to perform under moderate to high levels of stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.

- Schedules and directs duties of assigned staff.
- Reviews and evaluates work performance; makes recommendation for improvement and change; provides training sessions.
- Participates in interviewing prospective employees.
- Maintains positive working relationships with local and regional public safety agencies.
- Participates in providing basic and advanced life support; may be required to drive an ambulance in a variety of conditions and in response to an emergency call; may assist with control of scene and non-injured parties.
- Makes presentations at schools, civic groups, and other public safety agencies.
- Ensures that adequate supplies are maintained.
- Completes all reports and forms associated with patient care.
- Responds to inquiries and complaints from the public, other county employees and officials, representatives of civic organizations, and representatives of the media.
- Responds to both local and regional disaster incidents.
- Participates in the care and upkeep of equipment (i.e., response vehicle, life support, and personal protective equipment).
- Ensures all required certifications for operations staff are valid and current.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
