What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vacuum Truck Operator position at Okaloosa County?
Cleans and maintains sewer lines and lift stations; constructs, repairs and maintains water and sewer infrastructure.• Vacuums lift stations and pumps out sludge ponds; cleans storm drains; installs rain stoppers and utilizes the truck’s high-pressure sewer cleaning system to remove clogs from the county’s sewer lines.
• Operates vacuum trucks, and other heavy equipment to include boom trucks, tanker trucks, and dump trucks.
• Performs general maintenance and repair on county sewer lift stations, water and sewer mains and service lines, and odor control scrubbers.
• Assists with the installation of new water and sewer infrastructure and site restoration (i.e. grading, asphalt and concrete patches).
• Ensures vehicles and equipment are properly operated and maintained.
• Keeps a sewer infrastructure maintenance record.
• Utilizes hand-held manual, air, and gas-powered tools and equipment in the performance of duties (i.e., pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, saws, air compressors, diagnostic instruments, gas detectors, meters and gauges).
• Maintains an inventory record of tools and other equipment.
• Reads and interprets water and sewer maps, blueprints, construction plans and as-built drawings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) years’ experience in the installation and maintenance of water and/or sewer systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Availability for standby/on-call and response to emergencies outside of normal duty hours is required.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a Class “B” Wastewater Collection Certification, or certification must be obtained within one (1) year of employment. Requires a valid Class ”B” commercial driver license (“CDL”) with tanker endorsement. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge.Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate trucks and various hand-held manual and gas-powered tools and equipment. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Tasks include considerable bending, stooping, climbing, etc., and working in confined spaces. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires ability to read and communicate effectively in Standard English. Requires the ability to read and comprehend documentation rendered in various forms (i.e., maps, sketches, blueprints, diagrams).
