Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of paralegal experience and a passion for social justice, legal reform, and working on cases that have a meaningful impact. This position will support our legal team by conducting research, drafting documents, managing case files, and coordinating with clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant case law, statutes, and regulations to support litigation and advocacy efforts.
- Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence.
- Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, depositions, and trials, including organizing exhibits, case files, and other materials.
- Manage case files, maintain legal databases, and ensure all records are accurate and up to date.
- Coordinate with clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders to schedule meetings, hearings, and deadlines.
- Monitor legislative and policy developments relevant to the organization’s mission.
- Assist in drafting reports, presentations, and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the organization’s public interest projects, including events, training sessions, and community outreach initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field.
- Certification: Paralegal certification is preferred.
- Experience: 3-5 years of paralegal experience, preferably in civil rights, public interest, or nonprofit law.
- Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize deadlines, and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and the mission of Oklahoma Appleseed.
- Familiarity with Oklahoma state and federal court procedures is a plus.
