- Provides health screening for students referred by school personnel, parents and coordinating agencies.
- Functions within state and district policies to provide health care to all students.
- Monitors the school immunization program in accordance with Immunization Law.
- Participates in health screening programs and provides guidance, counseling, or follow-up as needed by referring students and/or their families to appropriate health care agencies for services.
- Administers emergency care for injury or sudden illness.
- Promotes sanitary conditions within the school.
- Develops Individualized Health Care Plans and, when needed, Emergency Care Plans for students with specialized medical concerns during the school day.
- Prepares monthly documentation necessary to bill Third Party Providers for reimbursement of medical services provided as defined by the student's Individualized Education Plan, Accommodation Plan.
- Develops and maintains health records in accordance with Federal and State Laws, and District Policies.
- Provides School staff with current information regarding student health problems which affect the learning process.
- Attends professional meetings, in-services and workshops to keep abreast of current trends in nursing practice and medicine.
- Supervises and monitors the medical skills of License Practical Nurses, where applicable.
- Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by sharing responsibilities of the department during peak periods or when there is an overload of duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- To ensure continuity of services, alternative work site may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for alternative work site will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for alternative work site will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
- Registered Nurse with valid license issued by the Oklahoma Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education.
- Standard Certification as a School Nurse by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
- Clinical experience in one or more of the following areas desired:
- Pediatric Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Emergency/Trauma Nursing or Public Health/Community Health Nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting from 75 to 100 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
