What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Staff Accountant position at Oklahoma Environmental Services?
Summary: The staff project accountant will perform duties within general and operational project duties. They report to the Controller. They maintain and control the financial aspects of a project as it progresses as well as general accounting duties as assigned.
Project Accountant responsibilities:
- Reports to the Controller and/or other project managers as required.
- Reviews setup of budgets, including staffing, work plans, and fee structures.
- Prepares pre-billing reports for project managers to review.
- Prepare actual cost reports.
- Monitors receivable income and supports project managers with collections.
- Issues invoices and purchase orders, as well as ensuring consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills are tied to the project.
- Ensures a steady cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner.
- Updates contracts according to client requirements and reporting associated budget amendments.
Accounts payable duties / responsibilities:
- Reviews accounts payable invoices and confirms correct project numbers are used.
- Matches purchase orders with invoices.
- Answers vendor questions by researching accounts.
- Prepares monthly inventory control reports.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Accounts receivable duties / responsibilities:
- Issues purchase orders and job numbers for projects.
- Setup plans and budgets in software program per contract provided by project manager.
- Create invoices according to company practices and submit invoices to customer/project manager.
- Close projects and files once completed.
- Drafts correspondence for standard past-due accounts and collections.
- Reconciles accounts receivable each month.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
- Ability to work in a team environment and in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required.
- Experience with DelTek VantagePoint preferred.
