What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Animal Care Assistant position at Oklahoma Humane Society?
Department: Intake Program
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Immediate Supervisor: Intake Facility Manager
Status: Part Time
Purpose of Position:
To provide humane and proper care to the organization’s animals being housed on site
and to additionally provide excellent customer service to anyone visiting the program
location.
Duties & Responsibilities:
In accordance with organizational policies, duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist with intake procedures for OK Humane pets.
- Transport animals from Oklahoma City Animal Welfare to the Intake Facility and In-House Clinic as needed.
- Follow established disease control protocols.
- Administer animal vaccinations, tests, medications, and treatments as directed.
- Restock areas with supplies and equipment.
- Maintain equipment in working condition, and report equipment or supply needs to supervisor.
- Maintain work and general areas in an organized manner.
- Others duties assigned.
- Clean and sanitize animal housing.
- Provide food & fresh water.
- Assist foster parents with animal drop-offs and pickups.
- Take out the trash.
- Assist with general questions and requests from the public.
- Inventory management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Must be comfortable handling/learning to handle both dogs and cats – general handling. (petting, leash-walking, some lifting, and carrying), and restraint (drawing blood, giving vaccines, and placing animals in cages/carriers).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a professional, tactful, mature and sincere attitude, and be able to represent the mission, goals, and policies of OK Humane in a creative, credible, and energetic manner.
- Ability to follow directions and multi-task.
- Must be able to work maturely and respectfully with diverse groups of people.
- Must be organized, flexible, and adjust to rapidly changing needs.
- Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with computer systems used in operation
and have basic computer skills, including database skills. - Knowledge of and commitment to animal welfare issues is strongly preferred.
- Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of OK Humane.
- Must be proficient in MS Office.
- Position will require weekend days and evenings.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in a kennel/shelter setting and outdoors.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking, and standing on feet 8-10 hours per day while performing job functions.
- Exposure to disinfectant solutions when cleaning.
- Exposure to various weather conditions when working outdoors.
- Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament.
- Occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
Salary : $20,700 - $26,200
