Job Summary
The Assistant Vice President of Instructional Technology organizes and directs activities in distance education related to implementation and ongoing management of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA). The position provides leadership and coordination in the design and implementation of academic technology for online, hybrid, blended, enhanced and face-to-face courses. The AVP is responsible for overseeing a quality improvement process for online and hybrid / blended classes including guiding, training, and supporting faculty and staff who develop and use instructional technology strategies. The AVP collaborates with other departments, including Information Technology, to enhance the way technology assists faculty and students in the classroom.
Essential Job Functions :
Administration
Lead all aspects of the NC-SARA process.
Lead the continued work on institutional engagement related to distance education, including meetings, webinars, annual conferences, etc.
Manage internal operational support to ensure improvements are made and inefficiencies minimized in the NC-SARA Portal and related processes.
Manage all requirements of NC-SARA and update processes on both campuses as policy changes are approved through the NC-SARA Policy Modification Process.
Develop and implement a strategic vision for instructional technology that aligns with the institution’s mission and goals.
Lead the instructional technology team in identifying and integrating emerging technologies to enhance learning outcomes and operational efficiency.
Establish policies, procedures, and best practices for the use of instructional technologies.
Review and evaluate instructional technology plans and associated budgets to ensure consistency and effective allocation of resources to support institutional priorities.
Oversee planning and operations of online learning programs, ensuring quality of online instruction, and developing faculty development initiatives for distance
education.
Supervise and evaluate instructional technology staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
Serve as a liaison between the instructional technology team, faculty, IT, and other institutional departments.
Faculty Training
Oversee the design, development, and delivery of faculty training on best practices for traditional and distance education.
Instructional technology coordination
Coordinate with other campus units to provide technical support and expertise for instructional technology.
Oversee the management and delivery of learning management system (LMS) and related platforms.
Lead the implementation and integration of a course design standard into the design, delivery, and assessment of online and hybrid courses.
Oversee instruction and curriculum design in e-learning projects, training programs, and annual conferences.
Assist faculty in developing curriculum materials and facilitate the selection and installation of educational technology systems.
Advocacy
Advocate for institutional support for individual efforts to create and implement instructional technology.
Assess the effectiveness of instructional technology initiatives and recommend improvements based on data and feedback.
Compliance / Reporting
Ensure accessibility and compliance with ADA standards in technology use.
Manage institutional compliance with NC-SARA guidelines, ensuring continued authorization for distance education in participating states.
Oversee the annual NC-SARA reporting process, including data collection and submission to governing bodies.
Monitor changes in state and federal regulations related to distance education and provide recommendations for institutional policies.
Serve as the liaison to NC-SARA and regional compact organizations, maintaining strong relationships with regulatory agencies.
Serve as the primary institutional contact for online course quality.
Maintain records of review process for hybrid / online courses and provide regular reports on progress and achievements.
Stay informed on trends and advancements in instructional technology and integrate relevant innovations into institutional practices.
