Facilities Management is looking for a dedicated, people-oriented Structural Trades Supervisor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in roofs, exterior building restorations and building interiors.
This position will oversee the quality and quantity of work for campus interior and exterior painting projects, including drywall, plaster, and glass. Supervise shop operations involving stripping, sanding, staining, painting, upholstering, and spray booth activities. Ensure compliance with University Policies and Procedures. Visit job sites to assess materials, equipment, and scope of work. Supervise Building Interiors and oversee Roofs and exterior restoration operations. Collaborate with the Asbestos department to understand abatement procedures and licensing. Prepare paint and stain colors, and assign daily work tasks. Provide necessary materials and tools to workers, inspect their work, and ensure compliance with codes and standards. Inspect materials before installation for defects. Perform painting, glass, and drywall work as needed, and maintain equipment.
Responsibilities include reviewing work orders and plans to determine the scope of work and needed materials. Ensure customer satisfaction and clean job sites. Record paint formulas and material quantities. Review and approve time cards. Interview, hire, and evaluate employees. Coordinate work schedules with other shops as needed. Notify Environmental Health & Safety for hazardous material disposal and complete related paperwork. Conduct shop meetings. Inspect vehicles for cleanliness and necessary repairs.
Schedule and conduct Hazardous Materials Training and safety meetings. Inspect stripping and spraying equipment daily to ensure worker safety and compliance. Check paint booth conditions and inspect job sites for safety precautions. Train workers on safety techniques and provide the necessary equipment. Participate in estimating meetings and training. Assist the Manager with planning, specifications, cost estimates, and special projects. Research and test materials, and follow up on installations. Determine shop needs for supplies, tools, and equipment. Propose cost estimates and benefits to the Manager. Cover responsibilities for other supervisors or the Manager in their absence. Attend specified meetings and training sessions
Must work well with students, faculty & staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
Regularly stands, lifts, bends, stoops, lifts above shoulders, and carries 50 lbs or more.
Due to the position’s communication expectations, the incumbent will be required to maintain a personal cell phone and be continually available both during and after normal working hours.
Appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment), gloves, safety glasses, etc are provided for use in the workplace.
The employee in this position may be required to work overtime after 4 pm, shift work, and be on a rotating standby for emergencies during non-business hours including when the university is closed and / or other events after 5 pm on weekdays, weekends, and holidays when management deems necessary. The ability to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management regardless of weather will be required.
