Responsible for proactively handling Worker’s Compensation cases to protect the interest of the injured employee and achieve the best possible outcome for each claim. Works closely with various departments, injured employees, medical providers, and counsel.
Primary Responsibilities
Accurately process, finalize and control an inventory of claims in a timely manner
Handle private and proprietary information while maintaining strict confidentiality and protecting information from unauthorized disclosure
Review, investigate, analyze, and adjust Workers’ Compensation claims in accordance with current specific state laws and regulations as well as all pre-established company policies and procedures, including but not limited to :
Initiate “Three Point Contact” with OD Service Center, the injured worker and medical provider within pre-established time limits
Establish claims reserves and authorize payments within reserving authority limits
Authorize medical treatment within pre-established authority level
Review and process bills for payment in accordance with the established fee schedule and contractual agreements
Coordinate timely return-to-work efforts with the injured employee, medical provider, OD Service Center, and the OD Worker’s Compensation Representative
Coordinate resolution of claims by preparing documentation and forms specific to the state
Coordinate with defense counsel on litigated claims, providing records and reports as necessary
Review progress of claims routinely with the Workers Compensation Supervisor or Manager, providing a well-documented action plan
Keep the Workers Compensation Supervisor and Manager apprised of all claims that require special attention or have extenuating circumstances
Consult with and monitor service providers, such as legal counsel, medical and vocational professionals
Refer appropriate claims for subrogation recovery
Report “qualified claims” to the Workers Compensation Excess Insurance Company as well as all catastrophic claims based on the established financial criteria, including any claims that meet the established financial criteria threshold
Perform various routine clerical duties, utilizing standard office equipment to include maintaining calendars, filing, entering information into databases and spreadsheets, emailing, scanning, making photocopies, faxing documents, phone communication, typing and word processing
Maintain knowledge of Mandatory Medicare Reporting, monitor reporting, and correct any errors
Job Qualifications
Education :
High School diploma or equivalent
Current Certification / licensed as a “Claims Adjuster” for the applicable state
Experience :
4 years of experience administering Workers Compensation claims
Understanding of the claim’s administration, case management and cost containment solutions
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
Always maintain a professional business manner when representing OD
