A highly motivated individual is sought to perform both lab managerial tasks as well as basic scientific research in the field of cancer biology and infectious diseases. The research focus is to understand the molecular mechanisms that initiate and mediate progression to aggressive forms of prostate and other genitourinary malignancies, and to uncover mechanistic pathways that modulate host-pathogen interactions to drive infectious disease pathogenesis. The research centers on developing and applying new technologies in molecular biology and mass spectrometry-based multi-omics analysis to dissect and understand human disease pathogenesis using in vitro assays and clinical samples.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Assists in lab experiments under direct supervision. Performs tissue culture, laboratory bench work, molecular biology, biochemical and mass spectrometry experiments. Studies may involve use of mammalian tissue culture, and human cancer samples (tissues, body fluids).
  • Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas
  • Maintains inventory of lab supplies and orders supplies as needed for experiments. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
  • Keep detailed laboratory records and research data in an organized manner.
  • Read and interpret research papers and lab protocols to aid in performing experiments. Use written and oral communication skills to discuss results and data interpretation with PI.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Proteomics, or related fields. Experience with mass spectrometry, proteomics, metabolomics, liquid chromatography, bioinformatics and coding is a plus.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and innovative approach to experimental design. Computer literate and working knowledge of common software applications (word processing, spreadsheet, and database). Analytical ability sufficient for data analysis; mathematical ability sufficient to perform algebraic calculations and statistical analysis. Expressed willingness to teach others and share results. Capable of meeting time demands necessary to execute and complete experiments.
