Controller

Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, MS is an upscale profit club and we are looking for a motivated and experienced Controller to join our team.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Selects, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates accounting staff. Plans professional development and training activities for staff as necessary.

2. Manages assigned projects as they relate to the department and club’s needs.

3. Directs or prepares the monthly trial balance and resulting financial statements for the club, including the income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows, along with required supporting schedules and other data necessary for financial reports and records.

4. Reviews reconciliation of monthly ledgers including receivables, payables, bank accounts, asset accounts and wage accounts.

5. Reviews sales and use tax returns. Supervises preparation of other applicable federal, state and local tax returns by CPA firm and payroll company.

6. Attends department meetings and owner meetings as required. Communicates issues and results with the general manager and the owners.

7. Completes other relevant tasks assigned by the general manager and owners.

8. Prepares capital budgets, operating budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with the department heads and general manager; analyzes financial information.

9. Monitors budgeted versus actual expenditures and advises management about variances and their potential causes; recommends corrective actions to help assure that budget goals are met.

10. Formulates, receives and recommends policy proposals relating to accounting and auditing, the budget, revenue and cost control procedures, preparation and payment of payrolls, tax matters, compilation of statistics and office methods and procedures.

11. Informs and advises other department heads about the financial aspects of their responsibilities.

12. Manages and conducts internal auditing programs to help assure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed.

13. Maintains necessary procedures for confidentiality relating to club and employee issues.

14. Compiles, approves and maintains credit applications for vendors.

15. Approves and maintains all vendor contracts, loan agreements, and leases.

16. Oversees accounts payable operations to ensure appropriate general ledger coding and timely payments to vendors and creditors.

17. Oversees member, event, and stay-and-play billing and collection procedures. Takes action according to established club policies and procedures. Advises general manager and board/owners when difficult situations may arise regarding collection of past due accounts.

18. Oversees invoicing and collections of other receivable accounts including MSU, Homeowner’s Association, Bulldog Club, and others as applicable.

19. Oversees preparation of bi-weekly payroll. Reviews payroll prepared by the payroll clerk for accuracy and completeness.

20. Directs set-up and maintenance of payroll software, including time clocks, vacation policies, general ledger integration, direct deposit, employee deductions, employee garnishments, 401(k) contributions and loans, and child support payments.

21. Directs, supervises and verifies the taking of inventories for beverages, food, retail goods and other club assets.

22. Negotiates and maintains contracts for maintenance of computers and office equipment.

23. Manages, reviews, suggests and monitors changes in the automated financial management and accounting system.

24. Oversee the finance implementation of new web-based club software.

25. Negotiates and acquires property and casualty insurance to protect the clubs’ assets. Verifies that all insurance records for club property are properly maintained.

26. Oversees negotiation and administration of employee benefits including health, dental, vision and life insurance; pension plans; and workers’ compensation.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with 5 years of relevant experience, preferably as a sole accountant for a small privately held business or nonprofit.

· Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP.

· Club software experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

· Required to walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach.
