Overview:
FT/ 40hrs. The Visitation Specialist facilitates visits as part of Monitored and Supervised Visitation with Transportation Services, a program that serves families with over 13,000 hours of visitation and transportation annually. Monitored and supervised visitation provides opportunities for families whose children are in foster care to visit with one another in a safe environment. The Visitation Specialist interacts directly with clients and visitors by observing visits (both sight and hearing) and providing redirection when necessary. Qualified candidates should possess a related Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities:
- Oversees monitored and supervised visitation by ensuring a safe environment, clients and visitors adhere to all court ordered rules, the visitation specialist is alert and informed of client behavior history, the visitation specialist knows when and how to intervene or terminate visits while maintaining the family’s dignity.
- Builds rapport with clients and offers empathetic ear when needed.
- Transports clients to and from visits, including long distances.
- Completes forms and reports including but not limited to: Monitored Visitation Summaries, notification of terminated visits, and reporting of visitors who fail to attend a scheduled visit.
- Maintains monthly telephonic contact and regular written contact with assigned social workers from Social Services Agency.
- Works effectively with others under stressful conditions, including other staff, County workers, and volunteers.
Qualifications:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6 months of experience working with children; or an Associate of Arts degree in a related field and 2 years of experience working with children and families.
- Ability to work effectively alone and with others during stressful conditions, including the ability to devise and implement action plans in the event of an emergency.
- Ability to remain aware and alert during visits that can last up to six hours.
- Maintain a valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record of at least 3 years as required by Olive Crest’s insurance carrier.
- Must maintain vehicle insurance throughout course of employment.
- Maintain criminal record clearance.
- Must have CPR and First Aid certification upon hire and maintained throughout employment
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30lbs.
- Must be able to walk on unstable ground and to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, use hands/ feel, climb, balance, and walk frequently.
- Apply reason in problem-solving situations where only limited standardization may exist. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
- Must have a philosophy of support for at-risk children and families in line with the mission, vision, values, and statement of faith of Olive Crest.
