Position Summary

The Grant Writer is responsible for managing Oliver Gospel’s research, scheduling, writing, editing and stewardship of funding proposals for and awards from foundations, government and corporate funders. This position requires a passion for community change and involves researching and determining prospective funding. This role will be responsible for developing and preparing proposals and will serve as a liaison between OG and funding agencies and organizations. This role requires the ability to align grant applications with organizational goals while ensuring that the process supports a measurable Return on Investment (ROI) for the organization.

Valid South Carolina driver’s license

For the Grant Writer

High school diploma or equivalent required

Bachelor's degree in journalism, English or Communications or related field preferred

Experience in grant status tracking, writing LOIs, grant applications and compiling grant reports

Experience in preparing successful grants and proposals

Exceptional research, writing and typing skills

Knowledge of PC-based software and relevant applications and office equipment

Position Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of the grant writing process

Utilize digital tools to research grant opportunities that fit the mission of OG

Develop personal relationships with foundation board members

Work with OG staff to obtain in-depth knowledge on program strategies, curriculum and approaches to resident care

Write grant proposals

Track grant proposals and provide regular updates to the supervisor

Compile, provide and submit reports as required for any grants awarded

Grant Success Rate: Measure the percentage of submitted proposals that result in awarded funding.

Return on Investment: Calculate the cost of grant writing activities (e.g., labor, research, administration) versus the funds secured through grants.

Revenue Generation: Track the amount of funding raised per month/quarter/year and compare it to targets.

Fundraising Efficiency: Monitor the cost-to-revenue ratio for grant writing efforts and optimize for higher profitability.

Timely Reporting: Ensure 100% of reports to funders are completed on time, contributing to a positive reputation with funders and potential for future funding.

Funder Retention Rate: Measure the success in maintaining relationships with past funders, leading to continued or increased funding.
