Organization Mission :   Oliver Scholars prepares high-achieving Black and Latinx students from underserved New York City communities for success at top independent schools and prestigious colleges. We provide crucial support for our Scholars so they can realize their full potential and ultimately give back to the city, the nation, and the world.

Position and Summary Reporting :   Reporting to the Chief Development Officer,  the Intern will work directly with the Development team to research and cultivate prospect donors, manage the organization’s donor databases, track, and evaluate fundraising efforts, and organize events. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and motivated individual to develop skills in nonprofit development and ultimately learn about educational opportunities for high-achieving Black and Latinx students.

Qualifications

  • Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program, with an interest in philanthropy, business, marketing, public relations, journalism, communications, or nonprofit management
  • Strong proficiency in all social media platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Adobe Acrobat and Google Suite
  • Strong persuasive writing skills
  • Graphic design and Canva experience a plus
  • Part-time 10 to 20 hours per week from July 1 to August 15

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities :

  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate, foundation and individual donors and support with grant writing and reporting
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for Oliver Scholars’ Annual Gala, Alumni and Donor Cultivation Events
  • Support all development event planning logistics including attendance tracking, guest management, and follow-up
  • Update Oliver Scholars’ profiles for compliance organizations (e.g., BBB, GuideStar)
  • Prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence
  • Help organize and maintain Development Google Drive files
  • Maintain donor and grant databases and files, including calendaring deadlines, logging donations, and logging donor appreciation efforts
  • Support with the creation and dissemination of Oliver Scholars’ email appeals
  • Support with ongoing data entry and cleanup in Raiser’s edge, including notes entry and tracking of moves management efforts
  • Help create monthly fundraising reports and dashboards
  • Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings
  • Create PowerPoints and specialized decks for donor meetings
  • Support with fundraising reconciliation efforts, in conjunction with the development and accounting team
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer
  • Requirements

    Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship

    Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program

    Must have experience in Microsoft Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Adobe Acrobat and Google Suite
