GENERAL FUNCTION:
Wellness center coaches are responsible for aiding participants in achieving their well-being goals in group or individual settings as indicated by the Health & Well-Being Coordinator. They will instruct members and guests in the safe and effective use of a wide variety of cardio and fitness equipment, monitor orderly operation of the wellness center, and enforce wellness center rules. Having superb relationship skills, attention to detail and follow-through are required. Basic computer skills are also necessary. A wellness center coach should be self motivated and able to complete daily cleaning task. A wellness center coach should also serve as a champion of healthy lifestyles.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Pass comprehensive background check
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology is needed
- Has completed Foundations of Strength and Conditioning course or will complete within 2 months of hire date. Other training certificates/experience will be considered
- Highly preferred that individual will have a current national personal training certificate or working toward
- Highly effective communication and relationship building skills
- YMCA approved CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of employment or first available training date
- Computer literate
- Self-motivated
- Ability to respond calmly to safety and emergency situations
- Ability to relate to and engage with health seekers
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, complete required child abuse prevention and other trainings as required
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Establishes rapport with members, learns and uses names, creates a welcoming atmosphere
- Learn how the cardio and weight machines function
- Conduct orientations to teach others the proper and safe way to use equipment
- Conduct data collection by calling members that have completed orientations
- Will connect with supervisor to report out of order equipment, new member comments, cleaning schedule, and other pertinent information
- Maintain a general knowledge of all YMCA programs and events
- Work effectively in a team environment and independently
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Enforcing wellness center rules
- Participate in the YMCAs Annual Power of Community Campaign
- Promote volunteer recruitment and retention
- Basic cleaning of wellness center and helping with laundry
- Adhere to dress code policy
- Submits hours worked accurately on electronic timecard; within timelines for supervisor approval
- Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and talk and hear. Incumbent must be able to move freely and quickly throughout the YMCA facility; communicate effectively with people; and use a computer. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 or more pounds.
