A Brief Overview
Performs a variety of clinical supervisory functions including leading and coordinating the daily clinical operational activities of the unit and personnel functions. Ensures the delivery of quality patient care by holding staff accountable to established patient care and regulatory standards. Interprets policies and procedure to nursing staff and patients / families. Builds, maintains, and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships within a safe working environment
Essential Functions
CLINICAL OPERATIONS- Leads and supervises the daily clinical operational activities of the unit to ensure that quality care is delivered efficiently to include :
- Managing patient flow
- Overseeing the delivery of patient care and coordinating admissions, discharges, transfers and responding to unforeseen events adjusting patient assignments, as needed.
- Effectively problem solves to maximize resources to maintain patient flow, quality patient care and open communication between healthcare team members / departments
- Ensures patient assignments are made as defined by the Nebraska State Nurse Practice Act, and according to the knowledge and skills of the staff available.
- Ensures documentation on daily staffing sheets, electronic staffing system, and assignment sheets is accurate
- Follows up with own staff floating to other areas at least once during the shift. Ensures staff floating into unit are supported clinically, introduced / welcomed as part of the team, and assigned a buddy.
- Works collaboratively with AC and other unit leaders in meeting staffing challenges, taking accountability for impact of staffing decisions in own unit.
- Ensures that staff has the supplies, equipment, information, and resources needed to provide quality patient care in a safe work environment.
- Provides effective training on skills and changes within the industry to new and current employees
- Remains current on skills and training. Serve as a clinical expert.
- Plays integral role in planning for current and future nursing needs and resources
PEOPLE LEADERSHIP- Supervises nursing staff including, but not limited to, recruitment, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers, schedules, disciplinary action, performance evaluation (introductory and annual), orientation, and development. This includes day to day performance through ongoing assessment and coaching to achieve goals.
COMMUNICATION- Maintains an environment of trust, fairness, consistency, and confidentiality with team members and with internal and external customers.
QUALITY, COMPLIANCE, and SAFETY- Supports the delivery of quality patient care by holding staff accountable to established patient care and regulatory standards. Interprets policies and procedure to nursing staff and patients / families.
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS and SERVICE- Builds, maintains and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships within a safe working environment.

Minimum 2 years nursing experience including one year experience in pediatric nursing Required and
Previous supervisory or lead experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and / or Compact State Licensure Current and valid Nebraska RN license / RN Compact license Upon Hire Required and
BCLS - Basic Life Support Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Current and valid certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 180 Days Required and
ACLS Current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required (ED and CCU only) within 180 Days Required and
NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Current and valid certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) required (NICU only). Upon Hire Required
