Helper (Transportation)

Become acquainted with and perform the maintenance and repair of the District's transportation and construction equipment fleet

and the operating procedures of all applicable District departments.

Qualifications

Required :

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Must have (or be able to obtain within six months of hire) a Class A Commercial Driver License.

Experience in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of vehicles (passenger cars, light duty trucks and medium duty

trucks) and construction equipment, and / or fleet shop operations for an electric utility, independent shop, dealership

or similar / related business.

Desired :

strongly preferred.

Knowledge of hydraulic system operations and maintenance is desirable.

Welding and fabrication experience.

Time Demands :

position will be required to report to work and may be required to work hours beyond an employee's normal shift.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance in alignment with Departmental policy.

Must be available for overtime work and call-outs as required to ensure continuance of efficient operation.

Environment :

Office / Field : Work will be performed both in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and

noises and outside in a variety of weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, wind, etc.), terrain, and other natural environmental

hazards as well as pollen and other airborne allergens.

Generation Plant : Work will be performed inside with exposure to industrial building conditions and will be exposed to extreme

temperatures, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation and exposure to sounds. Noise levels may require shouting in order to be heard.

Physical Demands :

Frequent requirements of the position : sitting, speaking, hearing, ability to see information in print and / or electronically,

keyboarding, handling objects with hands, standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Carrying at least 50 pounds, lifting 100

lbs floor to waist, 70 lbs floor to shoulder, 50 lbs floor to waist repetitively, climbing vertical ladder, and pulling 50 lbs of force.
