Job Title: UNMC Alliance High School Teacher
Location: Career Center (3215 Cuming St, Omaha NE 68131)
Reports To: Program Director
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: per negotiated agreement / Exempt
2025/26 Step 1 with a Bachelor's Degree: $51,200, Step 1 with a Master's Degree: $57,820
Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable negotiated agreement.
Position Purpose: We are seeking a great communicator with excellent interpersonal skills for the role of UNMC High School Alliance teacher. This teacher will be responsible for developing learning activities and hands-on material that expands on current state science and health science standards, tending to individual student needs to nurture curiosity, and communicating regularly with the UNMC community, our faculty our students’ parents, and the program’s participating school districts.
To ensure success as a UNMC High School Alliance teacher, candidates should have a strong quantitative background, demonstrate empathy, and have good written and verbal communication skills. Ultimately, this teacher will have the ability to adapt and enforce classroom policies and procedures, develop students' scientific literacy and be able to co-teach with UNMC faculty and UNMC professional and graduate students.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited travel may be required.
Physical And Mental Demands, Work Hazards
This position is treated as a certified full-time exempt position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

- Developing health science curricula for juniors and seniors in high school.
- Planning and teaching high-quality daily lessons.
- Implementing a data-driven methodology towards measuring learner progress.
- Developing with UNMC faculty, learning activities, hands-on material for classes, and teaching strategies for successful student outcomes.
- Accommodating students' individual learning needs and styles and teaching to those needs and styles.
- Demonstrating an awareness of different student backgrounds and cultures.
- Communicating regularly with parents/guardians.
- Communicating regularly with students’ counselors and other support staff.
- Providing additional support to students as identified.
- Assessing and monitoring student growth to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
- Using learner data to constantly refine curriculum.
- Providing regular feedback to students.
- Modeling expected behavior to establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom.
- Promote understanding and communication in a diverse learning and cultural environment.

- Expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated duty day, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
- Minimum of bachelor's degree in education or a science related field.
- A valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate, or the ability to obtain one, with a science endorsement.
- Knowledge of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) best practices.
- Demonstrated experience presenting course content which focuses on teaching the nursing assistant to provide safe, effective and caring service to the elderly and chronically ill in a long-term setting.
- Positive interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and public relations skills.
- Proficiency with basic computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email platforms.
- Knowledge and experience with online student and learning management platforms such as Canvas.
- Experience working with children and adolescents.
- Previous experience as a STEM teacher will be advantageous.
- Good classroom management skills.
- Positive collaborative and teamwork abilities.
