What are the responsibilities and job description for the Umonhon Youth Runaway & Homeless Program - Youth Advocate position at Omaha Tribe of Nebraska?
SUMMARY: The UYRHP Youth Advocate provides housing and support services to young people who are exiting homelessness. This position provides individualized and specialized support to participants focusing on daily needs, supporting counseling services as appropriate and connecting youth with services such as weekly Life Skills Training/Instruction lessons, obtaining employment, financial literacy, meeting program expectations, maintaining housing, and increasing academic achievement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following.
- Maintain all files and records relating to the Umonhon Youth Runaway & Homeless Program.
- Ensure confidentiality to protect the rights of participants and staff and maintains good communication between all youth, Family Resource Center, schools, and others involved in the project.
- Provides intake, trauma-informed counseling, case management, referred services, and discharge of all youth participants.
- Responsible for collecting data and reporting data and information on the grantor's data collection system.
- Oversee case management for all youth participants.
- Provide weekly Life Skills Training/Instruction Work with Project Director and CFS Case Managers to formulate individualizes action plans.
- Work one-on-one with youth participants to improve Social, Cultural, and Emotional Well-being, Permanent Connections, Education or Employment, and Safe and Stable housing.
- Keeps meticulous records of youth programs and interactions.
- Maintains contact with youth leaving the UYRHP to ensure successful and safe exits.
- Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Significant experience in social services and/or mental health fields.
- Two years of case management experience.
- Experience working in a temporary shelter program or independent living skills program.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Must have a valid driver's license and be eligible for Tribal insurance.
- Must complete any mandatory training.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Understanding of the OTN community and its unique challenges.
- Must possess strong leadership and public speaking skills, able to provide community lectures and education on related topics to the program.
- Must have a working understanding of Omaha culture, tribal systems, and tribal referral processes.
