Position Overview
The Adhesives Engineering Intern would be responsible for evaluating potential adhesive products for compliance, customer driven specifications, and end use requirements under the direct supervision of the adhesives team. The intern will utilize Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical data analysis using Minitab to support testing and manufacturing process development. The intern will also prepare summaries of collected data that will be presented to the RP NPD&I team. This person will also assist with ideation for new products and utilize SOLIDWORKS for 3D modelling work.

Responsibilites
- Promote Safety as the number one priority of all OMG employees.
- Mainly support New Product Development in evaluation of adhesive products and formulations through mechanical testing, statistical methods using Minitab, and the use of ASTM standards.
- Assist with hands-on testing and sample preparation
- Utilize engineering software (SOLIDWORKS) for CAD modelling and prototyping using 3D printing.
- Communicate and explain testing and statistical choices used to generate results to members of other departments as required.
- Maintain necessary files, records, and computer databases of historical information.
- Work directly and independently with Manufacturing, Quality and other departments as required.
- Perform all work in a safe manner and comply with all regulations, safety precautions, PPE requirements, and 5S processes
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Basic Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Basic knowledge of statistical concepts, strong mathematical skills, and ability to draw conclusions from results.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Advanced PC skills, including experience with MS Office Suite, Minitab and SOLIDWORKS.
- Ability to independently complete special tasks and projects.
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Ability to solve practical problems and prioritize workloads.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Good close vision and depth perception skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Any prior experience in the construction industry.
- Experience with polymer/adhesive characterization and evaluation.
- Experience with analytical characterization (optical microscope, FT-IR, SEM) or metallurgy preferred.
- Ability to work in high noise areas and wear appropriate hearing protection devices.
- Manual material handling involving the need to grip, squeeze, and pinch.
- Ability to use hard tined rake to move/break apart parts frequently.
- The position requires the ability to regularly stand.
- The position requires good close vision and depth perception skills.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and regularly lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds.
