Directional Drill Locator
The Directional Drill Locator is responsible for contribute to our fiber optic installation projects. As a Directional Drill Locator, you will interpret the signals sent from underground transmitters about location, angle, temperature, and other factors for the drill operator, who operates the drill.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and calibrate directional drilling equipment, including locating devices, guidance systems, and survey tools.
- Perform pre-drilling surveys to determine the appropriate drilling path and identify potential obstacles or hazards.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to plan and execute directional drilling projects.
- Implement measures to minimize environmental impact during drilling.
- Identify and address any challenges or obstacles encountered during drilling.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of drilling equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols during drilling operations to minimize risks and prevent accidents.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during drilling operations.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and project progress.
- Collaborate with the installation team to assist with fiber optic cable pulling, splicing, and testing activities as needed.
- If you are assigned a company vehicle, you will be responsible for stocking, cleaning, and reporting maintenance needs to the Fleet Manager.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Directional Drill Locator in the telecommunications or utility industry.
- In-depth knowledge of directional drilling techniques, equipment, and familiarity with survey tools, guidance systems, and tracking.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental considerations related to drilling activities.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate various types of construction equipment and tools.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to driving and construction work.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual labor tasks in various weather conditions and environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- This job will include traveling 2-5 days a week. You will receive hotel accommodations and per diem for every night you spend the night.
- Overtime is required and you must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays dependent on the job and the company's needs.
- Able to perform night maintenance and emergency callouts.
- Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record within company standards is required.
- Class A CDL is nice but not required.
