We have an immediate opening for a Technical Support Specialist to join our growing team located in Sugar Land, Texas.
About the role:
This position is primarily responsible for providing customer support by use of E-mail and telephone contact. Represent OMNI Flow computers while providing technical services to our global customer base. Manage customer inquiries and provide world class support to the Oil and Gas market. Utilize skills such as basic electronics, flow measurement, electronics communications, and customer service skills to resolve the day-to-day issues.
This is a full-time, exempt position requiring a minimum 40-hour workweek, with extended hours as necessary to meet deadlines and business needs.
Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:
· User Support: Answers client's inquiries in person and via telephone or E-mail concerning systems operation; diagnoses system hardware, software, Flow Measurement principles, and operator problems; and recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation.
· System Maintenance & Records: Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities.
· Repairs: Replace defective hardware or inadequate software packages using OMNI’s procedures for returned materials (RMA’s). Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications. Configure hardware jumps for addressing and I\O configuration.
· Configuration & Testing: May configure flow computers and related equipment, such as remote terminal units, programmable controllers, applying knowledge of electronics, electrical circuits, and programming using hand tools, and testing instruments and following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints. Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.
· Diagnose & Troubleshooting: Test electrical components; locates and replaces faulty flow computer firmware, software or hardware including printed circuit board modules, program memory in flow computer, applying knowledge of circuit board function, using computer display screen on flow computer and following schematic diagram. Troubleshoot communications systems, including serial RS-232, RS-485, and TCP\IP networking issues.
Candidate requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (BA) in Engineering is a plus. Extensive industrial electronics experience, in lieu of education can be considered.
- Two (2) years industrial electronics experience
- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
- Previous experience within the energy, electronics, Information Technology. Customer Service or similar industries is required as a foundation to build upon “On the job” and other training to be provided during the training period.
- Knowledge of the practical application flow measurement systems. This includes flow computers, custody transfer flow meters, process variable instrumentation for temperature, pressure, and gravity as well as various analyzers, and gas chromatographs is preferred.
- Knowledge of fundamentals of communications such as RS-232/485 serial, TCP/IP, HART, and Modbus is preferred.
- Knowledge and use of data systems such as SCADA, DCS, OPC and HMI’s is a plus.
