Job Summary
OMNI Youth Services, the northwest suburbs` premier youth services agency, has an excellent opportunity for a Prevention Specialist – health educator to develop and coordinate school and community-based prevention program that will reduce substance use, and teen pregnancy among area youth. This position will work with school personnel to develop mutually beneficial programs for youth, use methods and instruments for collecting valid and reliable quantitative and qualitative data, execute/deliver an effective prevention education curriculum to middle and/or high school students, plan and implement a communication campaign, report on program performance, and apply strategies for continuous quality improvement.
The ideal candidate will be able to work comfortably with a wide range of people, including youth, parents, school administrator and community leaders. Candidate must possess the desire to be team-oriented and a solid belief in experiential learning. Flexibility and ability to adapt to change is critical.
Required skills:
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in public health, marketing, education, social work, psychology, counseling
- Education or related field is required
- Proven leadership and project management experience a must (professional or volunteer).
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations with multi- or inter-disciplinary colleagues
- Implement effective prevention strategies with fidelity
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted through the course of work
- Write clearly and concisely
- Effectively speak publicly when conducting presentations and/or facilitating meetings
- Work independently under limited supervision and organize multiple work assignments
- Collect and report on work as required by the Department, when needed
- Candidate must have a valid driver's license, access to a car, and the ability to lift and transport program materials required and be available to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Creativity, design and marketing skills are a plus.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and/or Adobe Suite) and use of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
Desired skills:
- Prior IDHS SUPS training
- Experience teaching/training in a classroom setting
- Experience with marketing or media campaigns.
- Spanish language skills a plus
