Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Prevention Specialist delivers evidence-based curriculum lessons focused on substance use and teen pregnancy prevention to schools in Chicago and the Lyons/Proviso Township area. The role involves collaborating with teachers and school staff to tailor programming for specific grade levels and engaging the community to raise awareness of adolescent health issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating evidence-based prevention programs in schools.
- Collaborating with teachers and school personnel to design and implement programming.
- Conducting outreach and community education on adolescent substance use and pregnancy prevention.
- Participating in community and partner meetings related to Prevention activities.
- Documenting all activities and outcomes as required by funders.
- Assisting in the One Summer Chicago youth employment program.
- Identifying and engaging employers to provide job opportunities for youth.
- Mentoring and monitoring youth throughout their employment experience.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in social services, public health, or related field preferred. An Associate’s degree with significant relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience: Prior experience working with adolescents in roles such as teaching, mentoring, coaching, or counseling is preferred.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with substance use and/or prevention programming is a plus.
- Language Skills: Spanish language proficiency is preferred.
- Requirements: Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
