Job Summary:

Omnivet is seeking a Seasonal Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our team during our busiest months. This role provides vital support to our veterinary technicians and doctors, ensuring smooth workflow and maintaining high standards of care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and eager to contribute to a fast-paced veterinary environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care Assistance

  • Assist veterinary technicians and doctors during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Safely restrain animals for exams, blood draws, and other medical procedures.
  • Monitor and report changes in patient behavior or condition to the veterinary team.

Hospital Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels.
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of medical supplies and restocking when necessary.

Client Communication

  • Assist with discharges by reviewing post-care instructions with clients.
  • Provide empathetic and clear communication to clients regarding patient care and hospital protocols.

Laboratory and Diagnostic Support

  • Set up diagnostic tests and prepare lab samples for processing.
  • Assist with radiographs by safely positioning animals for imaging.

Administrative Tasks

  • Assist with record keeping and data entry in the hospital management system.
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and support front desk operations as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or related animal care setting preferred.
  • Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of all sizes and temperaments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in or completion of a veterinary technology or animal science program.
  • Basic knowledge of veterinary terminology and procedures.
  • Experience using veterinary practice management software (ezyVet or similar).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, and bending.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animals of varying sizes and temperaments.

  • Seasonal position with a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
