On Point National Dance Competition is an amateur dance competition for youth ages 4-18. When a dance competition venue is set up the doors are opened and hundreds of dancers arrive with their talents and enthusiasm. At the Director’s queue, the first routine is called to the stage and there is an anticipatory silence but when the music starts the building comes alive with unmatched energy and excitement that lasts the entire weekend! The Job:
On Point’s Announcer will showcase their larger than life personality over the microphone while keeping the event on schedule. The duties include:
- Announcing on a microphone, reading routine titles confidently and fluidly, improvising when necessary
- Queuing up music for routines on a laptop
- Maintaining proper sound levels on a small sound board
- Multi-tasking efficiently
- Working positively as a team member to perform a variety of event production duties including setting up and breaking down each event in addition to their assigned position
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and based in/near Central NJ with the ability to travel from February through May. Most work weekends will include a Thursday departure and a Monday return. The Announcer will have a driver's license and their own reliable transportation to On Point’s corporate office.
Job Descriptions/Expectations:
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Confident, fluid reader
- MUST be proficient with live soundboards, PA systems and monitors
- Excellent pronunciation and vocal projection
- HIGH ENERGY with a positive personality
- Reliability and attention to detail is a MUST!
- Well-groomed appearance
- Ability to work long hours in high-stress theatrical production environments
- Physically able to lift/lower equipment for load-in/load-out at corporate office and for set-up/break-down at each event
- Shared responsibility for driving company van paid for by On Point
- Outstanding customer service skills. Must enjoy interacting with the public, especially children!
- Past dance convention/competition experience is very helpful!
This position is a part-time, seasonal, 1099 contract position. Please do not apply unless you are available all of the following weekends – including Thursdays and Mondays:
