On Point National Dance Competition is an amateur dance competition for youth ages 4-18. When a dance competition venue is set up the doors are opened and hundreds of dancers arrive with their talents and enthusiasm. At the Director’s queue, the first routine is called to the stage and there is an anticipatory silence but when the music starts the building comes alive with unmatched energy and excitement that lasts the entire weekend! As the most accessible member of the On Point team, the Merchandise Sales Associate interacts the most with competitors and their guests. It is imperative that their experiences are positive! Ideally, the Merchandise Sales Associate should be prepared to:
- Offer retail experience, a ready smile and a willingness to assist and answer questions for all On Point attendees!
- Be proficient in managing cash and credit transactions honestly and accurately.
- Ensure merchandise is presentable and secure at all time.
- Work as a team to perform a variety of event production duties including setting up and breaking down each event in addition to their assigned position.
- Manage very long days standing both physically and mentally.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and based in/near Central NJ with the ability to travel the east coast February through May. Most work weekends will include a Thursday departure and a Monday return. The Merchandise Sales Associate will have a valid driver’s license and their own reliable transportation to On Point’s corporate office.
Qualified candidates must meet the following expectations:
- HIGH ENERGY with a positive personality
- Outstanding customer service skills. Must enjoy interacting with the public, especially children!
- Organized with an attention to detail
- MUST be able to reliably and accurately manage cash and credit card transactions
- Ability to work long hours in high-stress theatrical production environments
- Capable of standing for hours at a time
- Previous retail experience – past dance convention/competition experience is very helpful!
- Physically able to lift/lower equipment for load-in/load-out at corporate office and for set-up/break-down at each event
- Will share responsibility for driving company van paid for by On Point
