Position Summary
As a Clearance Coordinator at Oncor, you’re responsible for planning, coordination, reporting and scheduling of all planned distribution and transmission clearance orders and switching coordination activities for the Oncor Electric Delivery distribution grid system. This role ensures the system is operated within established company loading and safety guidelines.
This position will be on-site based in our East Distribution Operations Center – Story Rd Irving, TX location
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs all essential functions and aspects of the job including any other specific job requirements.
- Review all requests submitted for planned switching.
- Review and evaluate Transmission Outage Application (TOA’s) affecting distribution facilities under control of the DOC and write associated switching orders required to facilitate the TOA’s.
- Develop and write Switching and Tagging orders such that Oncor facilities are not over-burdened and assure safety to employees.
- Proactively develop and manage DOC contingency switch plan addressing all major high-risk operational contingencies.
- Regularly review all system limitations and operational risks and document mitigation recommendations.
- Maintain cross-functional information exchange with Transmission and Distribution Planning to ensure up to date alignment and coordination.
- Proactively monitor distribution loading to ensure that the system operates in a safe, efficient and reliable manner ensuring system integrity and recommending solutions to any unexpected loading issues.
- Proactively review and monitor planned construction to establish priority and determine the impact on the distribution system with emphasis on plan items required prior to summer and winter peaks.
- Resolve conflicts or infeasibility of requested clearances by working with Transmission Grid Management, Transmission Construction, Distribution Construction & Operations, Distribution Engineering and Planning.
- Responsible for contingency planning involving Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Temporary Outage Action Plan (TOAP) requests.
- Communicate proper switching procedures to internal and external workgroups.
Skills:
- Working knowledge of the operating characteristics of the many switching and control devices is essential.
- A comprehensive understanding of operating and control procedures and of safety hazards associated with switching distribution systems.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Must have or gain knowledge in Distribution Management Systems and SCADA control systems.
- Possess strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise, and inclusive manner.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience with the use of Microsoft Office products.
- Flexible and adaptable.
- Ability to develop consensus on complex issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable on use of system monitoring tools.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- High School, GED, or equivalent and 5 years of relevant operations experience OR
- Applicants with Two-year technical degree; AAS degree or greater in an electrically related field are encourage to apply OR
- Will consider candidates with completion of Navy Nuclear EMN (Electrician’s Mates, Nuclear) or ETM (Electronics Technician’s Mate) program and honorable discharge.
- Preferred: 2 years of control room experience
