Overview

Interviews New Patients To Obtain Nutrition And Exercise History And Diet Preferences; Documents All Nutrition Data, Calculates Nutrient Intake, And Initiates Nutritional Assessment To Assist Dieticians In Formulating An Optimal Nutrition Care Plan; Prepares Nutrition Records For Physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Nutritional Consultation To The Patients And Patients’ Families Based On Individual Dietary Needs; Assists Dietician In Guiding Patients And Families In Menu Planning, Utilizing Computer Software Menu Planners Based On Nutritional Needs And Diet Goals
  • Initiates Follow-Up Communication With Patients And Patients’ Families To Answer Pertinent Questions And Encourage Compliance To Nutritional Guidelines; Confirms Appointments With Patients
  • Provides nutritional care services
  • Collects and reviews a variety of nutritional information to assists patients with individual dietary needs. Performs other related duties
  • Maintains Nutrition Care Manual
  • Prepares Patient Education Materials For Distribution To Patients And Patients’ Families

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates Degree from an American Dietetic Association approved Dietetic Technician program

Experience:

  • No experience required, some preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort
  • Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch
  • Ability to read, write and interpret documents
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk to perform job functions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time at required  patient bedside and/or procedural areas
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers
  • May be exposed to mechanical/electrical/radiant/explosive/burn and chemical hazards
  • May be required to handle, dispose of and/or identify hazardous waste and hazardous materials
  • May be required to operate and clean equipment
  • May be required to work both indoor/outdoor under extreme temperatures
  • May be required to handle reasonably heavy weights across distances
  • May be required to handle/ assist in lifting patients onto/out of exam beds/procedure stations
  • May be required to operate heavy vehicles
  • Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Kingsbrook/Rutland policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work
  • Other: Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding

Licenses, Certifications:

  • Dietetic Technician, Registered – Certification
Physical Requirements:
  • Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue. 
  • Incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or fist aid.
