Overview
Interviews New Patients To Obtain Nutrition And Exercise History And Diet Preferences; Documents All Nutrition Data, Calculates Nutrient Intake, And Initiates Nutritional Assessment To Assist Dieticians In Formulating An Optimal Nutrition Care Plan; Prepares Nutrition Records For Physicians.
Responsibilities
- Provides Nutritional Consultation To The Patients And Patients’ Families Based On Individual Dietary Needs; Assists Dietician In Guiding Patients And Families In Menu Planning, Utilizing Computer Software Menu Planners Based On Nutritional Needs And Diet Goals
- Initiates Follow-Up Communication With Patients And Patients’ Families To Answer Pertinent Questions And Encourage Compliance To Nutritional Guidelines; Confirms Appointments With Patients
- Provides nutritional care services
- Collects and reviews a variety of nutritional information to assists patients with individual dietary needs. Performs other related duties
- Maintains Nutrition Care Manual
- Prepares Patient Education Materials For Distribution To Patients And Patients’ Families
Qualifications
Education:
- Associates Degree from an American Dietetic Association approved Dietetic Technician program
Experience:
- No experience required, some preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort
- Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch
- Ability to read, write and interpret documents
- Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk to perform job functions
- Ability to stand for long periods of time at required patient bedside and/or procedural areas
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers
- May be exposed to mechanical/electrical/radiant/explosive/burn and chemical hazards
- May be required to handle, dispose of and/or identify hazardous waste and hazardous materials
- May be required to operate and clean equipment
- May be required to work both indoor/outdoor under extreme temperatures
- May be required to handle reasonably heavy weights across distances
- May be required to handle/ assist in lifting patients onto/out of exam beds/procedure stations
- May be required to operate heavy vehicles
- Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Kingsbrook/Rutland policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work
- Other: Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding
Licenses, Certifications:
- Dietetic Technician, Registered – Certification
- Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue.
- Incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or fist aid.
