POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor to join our team at One City Schools. As a School Counselor, you will play a crucial role in fostering the academic, emotional, and social well-being of our students. Your expertise and guidance will help create a positive and supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students in order to address academic, personal, and social concerns, fostering healthy development and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to identify and address student needs, developing effective intervention strategies when necessary.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify students' strengths, challenges, and potential barriers to success, and utilize this information to create personalized support plans.
  • Offer guidance and support to students as they navigate their academic and career paths, providing information about post-secondary education, vocational opportunities, and other pathways.
  • Implement programs and workshops that promote positive mental health, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, and other topics relevant to student well-being.
  • Assist in crisis intervention and emergency response, providing immediate support to students facing challenging situations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records related to counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Collaborate with the school's leadership team to develop and implement strategies for creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in school counseling and mental health, continuously updating your skills and knowledge.

ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
  • State certification or licensure as a School Counselor.
  • Previous experience in a school counseling role is preferred, particularly in a charter school setting.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health issues, and counseling techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Empathetic and compassionate demeanor, with a genuine interest in supporting students' well-being.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to develop effective intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to student privacy and confidentiality.
  • Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City.
  • Commitment to working with children from diverse racial / cultural populations and their families, experience preferred.
  • Detailed oriented, thorough, meticulous, and focused on accuracy
  • Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
  • Completion of a background check required.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.

    Established in 2014, One City Schools, Inc. is a nonprofit school management organization based in Madison, Wisconsin that operates high quality preschools and public charter 4K - 12 schools in Wisconsin. One City's mission is to seed a new model of public education that ensures children and teens are on track to succeed in a college or career preparatory program from birth through high school graduation.     One City Preschool (OCP) is an accredited, award-winning, tuition-based early childhood learning center operated by One City Schools, Inc. that serves children ages 3 months through 4 years. We facilitate and support your child’s early learning, development, and wellness within a play-based learning environment, which leads to their success and a joy for learning in grade school and beyond. OCP is accredited by the City of Madison (WI) Child Care Division and recognized as a 5-Star (out of 5) childcare program by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. Note : OCP also operates a preschool serving infants and one-year-olds, but these age levels are currently only available to the staff of One City Schools.

    One City Elementary School (OCES) is a tuition-free public charter school in Madison, Wisconsin, dedicated to preparing children in grades 4K to 5 to have a positive and sustainable impact on the world.
