Commodity Manager (Ethanol and Grain)

This is a leadership role that oversees grain origination, executes commodity strategies, and manages overall company risk. This position directly influences profitability, compliance, and growth by aligning operations with market trends and company goals.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Grain Origination:

  • Lead grain origination programs to minimize basis adjustments and engage farmers through innovative marketing
  • Manage long/short commodity positions, corn basis adjustments, and deferred cash bids
  • Identify and secure new corn purchasing opportunities

Market Expansion and Compliance:

  • Develop additional ethanol market opportunities and manage wet cake marketing strategies
  • Oversee carbon reduction initiatives and broader regulatory compliance, ensuring alignment with industry standards and company goals

Risk Management and Reporting:

  • Adhere strictly to the company’s Risk Management Policy, using approved tools and strategies to safeguard margins and mitigate exposure to market volatility
  • Prepare and present detailed monthly reports, including commodity positions, risks, and trends, for board meetings to support strategic decision-making

Operational Oversight:

  • Optimize inventories for all commodities, including railcars, ensuring efficient operations and alignment with company objectives
  • Manage and oversee the sales of ethanol, wet cake, and distillers grains to maximize returns

Industry Engagement and Innovation:

  • Stay informed of market trends by attending relevant conferences, workshops, and industry events as needed
  • Consult with participating brokers to analyze commodity trends and inform procurement strategies


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of grain marketing experience; bachelor’s degree in Ag Business or related field preferred
  • Strong analytical, Excel, and PowerPoint skills; detail-oriented problem solver
  • Effective communicator with the ability to perform under pressure
  • Innovative thinker committed to continuous improvement and learning
