Job Summary
The Mentor Coordinator (MC) is responsible for recruiting volunteers (especially volunteer mentors) to assist with the execution of the volunteer component of One Heart Project. Under the direction of the State Program Director, the MC will recruit, engage, coordinate the volunteer candidates, and assist the Program Director and/or Program Coordinator with volunteer training. The MC will schedule additional training for mentors as needed and collaborate with the Program Coordinator to address any ongoing needs. The MC will submit reports on a regular basis. As appropriate, the MC may attend various meetings, events, and conferences as well as participate in marketing and promotional activities.
Job Responsibilities
The Mentor Coordinator will:
- Recruit, engage and coordinate the volunteers needed to optimize program delivery.
- Coordinate and assist with volunteer training alongside Program Director and/or Program Coordinator.
- Assist in creation of volunteer recognition and award program.
- Develop relationships with volunteers and community partners to strengthen community connections.
- Coordinate refresher training and other development activities for volunteers.
- Assist volunteers with required documentation and data collection processes.
- Attend meetings and trainings as needed to effectively communicate with involved parties.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

The Mentor Coordinator should display:
- Strong relationship building skills.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to coach, train and provide feedback to volunteers.
- Ability to work in a variety of settings and be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Ability to communicate the diverse needs of youth in varied situations.
- Knowledge of local community resources and ability to network specifically for the recruitment of volunteers.
- Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task-orientation, and clear sense of boundaries.
Education & Work Experience
- BS/BA degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum of three years working with adolescent population preferred.
- Experience working with at-risk youth preferred.
- Experience in volunteer recruitment and/or coordination preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older
- Ability to speak and communicate clearly, hear, and has visual acuity adequate to perform the responsibilities and duties of the job
