VP, Government and External Relations
Reporting to and working closely with the CEO & President, the Vice President, Government and External Relations sets to achieve OHU’s public, legislative, and governmental strategies, while also overseeing strategies for communications and sustainable fund development growth. Responsible for engaging and growing a community of stakeholders to help ensure organizational sustainability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Government Relations
- Manage and oversee all lobbying and public relations efforts to ensure accurate representation of OHU’s core values and mission.
- Support senior/executive team in strategic planning by providing insights and best practices and working with industry leaders to understand future trends and the political landscape; keep abreast of changes and innovations in child welfare and early childhood education and new opportunities that promote and execute the brand of One Hope United and introduce improvements as appropriate.
- Lead, deepen, and implement public and government relations strategies to advance our work.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align external and governmental relations efforts with the organizational strategy.
- Broker partnerships with government officials to leverage funding and public support for operations and new initiatives.
External Relations
- Work closely with leadership to set and articulate a vision for OHU’s next fundraising chapter.
- Advocate on behalf of fund development within the strategic plan.
- Evaluate outcomes with a metrics-based approach.
- Supervise the Development team, ensuring a vibrant network of major gift donors who feel connected to and supportive of the mission of OHU.
- Oversee and participate as needed in developing new and ongoing corporate and foundation partnerships.
- Cultivate and support the OHU Board as a critical partner in growing private fundraising.
- Supervise the Communications team, ensuring effective internal and external communications and events that support OHU’s mission.
- Promote the agency’s culture of accountability across the organization, including staff, donors, the Board, and constituent groups.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the President and CEO.
Qualifications
Education:
|
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
|
Experience:
|
7 years of related experience interfacing with public officials and stakeholders; 7 years of experience managing communications and development.

Other:
|
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with OHU-required levels of coverage for auto insurance
|

- Technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Windows and familiarity with CRM database management.
