Job Title: Advocate

Job Summary: One Safe Place is seeking a full time Advocate to provide direct services to victims of domestic violence. This is a grant-funded position and reports to the Advocacy Coordinator.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides direct victims services including supportive guidance, advocacy, and in some cases mentoring to victims of domestic violence and their children.
- Specific direct victim services include increase victim’s knowledge of crime victims’ rights and increasing knowledge of community resources and services available to meet individual needs. Advocate will assist with Crime Victim’s Compensation, assist with Texas SAVNS, provide advocacy, crisis intervention and follow-up services to victims.
- Ability to conduct presentations in an effort to provide education outreach to increase the knowledge of community resources and services and training to increase the knowledge of crime victims’ rights.
- Provide direction and task supervision to interns and volunteers.
- Attend and participate in High Risk Case Staffing, regular trainings and other meetings designated as necessary.
- Work with other agencies both on and off site including, but not limited to, law enforcement, child protective services, local social service agencies, civil legal agencies, and county prosecutor’s office.
- Effectively input data into software programs for reporting purposes.
- Work in a positive team/partnership environment.
- Work schedule includes 36 hours per week Monday- Thursday 8:30 am – 6:00 pm; can include evening and weekend hours due to client service programming activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or related field from accredited university required.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working with domestic violence victims.
- Applicant needs to have knowledge in domestic violence by understanding the causes, cycle of violence and impact on children who witness domestic violence.
- Preferred experience with public speaking and training.
- Reliable transportation and flexibility in working within various working environments both on and off site.
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
