Position Description:
The Surgical Recovery Coordinator (SRC) plays a critical role in facilitating organ recovery and transplantation by overseeing all aspects of operating room (OR) coordination and recovery processes. This dynamic role requires expertise in managing surgical teams, coordinating with medical professionals, and ensuring the successful recovery and preservation of organs from brain-dead (BD) and donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operating Room Coordination:
- Manage and oversee all OR functions during organ recovery procedures.
- Coordinate schedules and ensure seamless communication among surgeons, perfusionists, and OR personnel.
- Facilitate the setup and maintenance of OR equipment and sterile fields.
- Organ Recovery and Preservation:
- Conduct perfusion of all abdominal organs, ensuring optimal preservation for transplantation.
- Assist in the recovery of thoracic organs for research purposes.
- Operate and manage pulsatile kidney perfusion systems.
- Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Work closely with transplant surgeons, perfusionists, and surgical technologists to execute organ recovery protocols.
- Serve as a liaison between medical teams, donor hospitals, and transplant centers.
- Train and mentor surgical technologists and other team members in recovery protocols and OR best practices.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and ethical standards for organ recovery and transplantation.
- Maintain detailed documentation of recovery procedures, organ perfusion, and other critical data.
- Innovation and Research:
- Stay abreast of advancements in surgical techniques, organ preservation, and recovery technologies.
- Participate in research initiatives aimed at improving organ recovery and transplantation outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Surgical technologist certification or equivalent OR experience required.
- Strong knowledge of OR protocols, surgical instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
- Experience in organ recovery or transplantation is highly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments with critical time constraints.
Physical and Travel Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures.
- Willingness to travel as needed to donor hospitals and transplant centers.
