What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Service Install Technician position at Ongaro & Sons?
Position Summary
The Service Install Technician will perform HVAC service repairs sold by service technicians. When call volume dictates, the position will perform demand calls for systems not working and/or maintenance safety tune-up inspections on HVAC systems (furnaces, air conditioning systems, heat pump systems, package units, and mini-split systems), both as prepaid plans as well as new customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Replacing or repairing parts sold by other technicians, these are to be confirmed by troubleshooting themselves before performing the work, as they will be responsible for the job going forward.
- Performing service calls on equipment that has issues, troubleshooting various systems (Unitary, Mini-Split, and package units) to identify the issue, then educating the customer what the issue is and presenting the customer with three options to resolve the issue. These solutions could range from regular maintenance to a replacement of a part or ultimately replacing the whole system.
- Performing maintenance safety tune-up inspections on HVAC systems (furnaces, air conditioning systems, heat pump systems, package units, and mini-split systems) in homes and light commercial locations in Sonoma, Marin, & Napa Counties.
- Providing excellent customer service to introduce or continue the customer experience while staying true to our company and core values.
- Presenting and closing opportunities for the customer to sign-up or renew prepaid maintenance programs.
- Strong understanding of how a HVAC system should optimally work.
- Reading and interpreting equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnosing problems, replacing or repairing parts (recognize when a more experienced technician needs to be sent out to evaluate the job), and testing and adjusting to HVAC systems.
- Identify plumbing issues and call in to the office to get one of our plumbers scheduled out to evaluate.
- Identify electrical issues and call in to the office to get one of our electricians scheduled out to evaluate.
- Educate and offer the customer preventive repairs (IE... replace run capacitor with low reading before it fails) and upgrades (IE… IAQ upgrades).
- Complying with safety regulations and maintaining clean and orderly work area.
- Performing other work-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High school diploma/GED
- At least 3 years experience in the HVAC field or Trade school is required
- EPA certification is required
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to use an iPad effectively
- Clean driving record
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently
