BROAD FUNCTION:
As a vital member of Onondaga Community College's Admissions team, the Admissions Specialist will proactively identify, engage, and support prospective students in alignment with the College's Strategic Plan and recruitment strategy. This role combines case management with admissions expertise to address non-academic challenges that may hinder students' ability to enroll, persist, and complete their degrees.
The Admissions Specialist serves as a bridge between prospective students and the resources they require to overcome non-academic challenges that may hinder their journey to enrollment and degree completion. This role combines the skills of case management with an understanding of the admissions process, to address a wide range of barriers. By addressing these non-academic factors, the Admissions Specialist helps create a smoother pathway to enrollment, enhancing the likelihood of student persistence and success.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Admissions Support:
Serve as a support person for the student application process, guiding prospective students through every step and ensuring a smooth transition into college.
Collaborate with other campus staff to facilitate enrollment into both credit and non-credit Workforce Development programs.
Community Engagement:
Manage relationships with community-based organizations and special populations within an assigned territory, primarily in Central New York and extending throughout the state.
Develop and maintain contact with a caseload of prospective students through various communication methods, including phone, email, live chat, text messaging, and social media.
Relationship Building:
Cultivate strong relationships with community organizations, prospective students, families, and business partners to foster a supportive network for student success.
Actively participate in community outreach initiatives to promote Onondaga Community College and its programs.
Comprehensive Case Management:
Provide tailored case management services to prospective students, ensuring that their unique non-academic needs are addressed.
Utilize and refer students to appropriate on-campus and community resources, including housing assistance, food security programs, legal aid, financial counseling, transportation support, and healthcare access.
Data Management & Reporting:
Complete all necessary documentation, including notes and activity records, to ensure effective case management and data collection.
Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (Slate) to track and manage a caseload of prospective students, updating records with current information as needed.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree from an accredited college or foreign equivalency
At least two years of recruitment, customer service, sales, and/or direct marketing experience
The ability to travel both locally and statewide year-round and to independently load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment
Evening and weekend hours will be required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in social work, psychology, counseling, or higher education counseling.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect effectively with diverse populations.
Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, preferably Slate.
Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Knowledge of community resources and support services available for students.
Empathetic and proactive approach to student support.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional Information:
Salary range is: $44,000 - $50,000, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience. This is a grant-funded position lasting two years and possibly more.
