What Exactly Does a WWTP Maintenance Worker Do?
The primary function involves the responsibility for assisting skilled wastewater treatment plant mechanical maintenance positions with the installation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment plant mechanical equipment, process piping, and related appurtenance. This is an important role at WEP, and the ideal candidate will have various responsibilities including, but not limited to:
❖ Performs, under the general supervision of a higher-level employee and by reading plans, diagrams, and specification, installation, maintenance, and repair work, such as installation, maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, compressors, blowers, conveyors, and related machinery used in a wastewater treatment plant and installation, maintenance, and repair of process piping.
❖ May act as lead worker in directing a small number of subordinates in performing unskilled and laboring tasks concerned with mechanical maintenance.
❖ Fulfills reporting requirements relating to work performed and materials used.
❖ Learns and perfects craft skills to perform journey level activities associated with wastewater plant installation, maintenance, and repair.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Two (2) years of experience or its part-time equivalent, in maintenance and repair work which relates to wastewater treatment plant mechanical equipment (such as pumps, blowers, air compressors) and/or other wastewater treatment plant equipment; or,
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college/university with an associate’s degree, or its equivalent in technical or apprentice training, in mechanical technology or engineering or technical curriculum which relates to mechanical system maintenance; or,
C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
Special Necessary Requirement: When required to operate a motor vehicle, employees must possess a valid non-CDL or CDL with appropriate endorsements as required by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for the class of vehicle being operated.
ANNUAL SALARY: $48,354 - $53,246
CIVIL SERVICE GRADE: CSEA / 7
POSITION TYPE: Permanent Full Time 40 hours/week
