What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Services Adoption Coordinator position at Onslow County?
Performs intermediate technical work as the marketing and social media coordinator for the Onslow County Animal Shelter, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Animal Services Shelter Manager. Leadership is provided to volunteers.

- Manages the volunteer program to include recruitment, training, and monitoring compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Completes scheduling and planning of community events, prepares agency displays and exhibits
- Provides customer service through answering phone inquiries; assisting customers within the shelter environment; and responding to electronic communications while facilitating utilization of community resources.
- Calculate fees and receives monies for all financial transactions in the shelter; receipting each transaction and balancing the cash drawer at the end of the shift.
- Develops and maintains social media context concerning activities of the department.
- Takes photographs for departmental publications and to illustrate news releases and feature stories to include photographs of adoptable animals; updates electronic database with photographs, animal profile traits, and biographies.
- Provides community outreach by conducting information sessions and representing the agency at special events.
- Plans, writes, and edits agency publications on educational, informational, and promotional matters including flyers and promotional materials.
- Participates in process of screening animals for disposition by making recommendations regarding adoption, foster placement, rescue transfer, or euthanasia.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteered
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge of the laws governing the keeping and caring of domestic animals, as set forth in the NC General Statutes and County Animal Control Ordinances. Knowledge of animal health and safety procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and general public. Knowledge and ability to capture photographs using a DSLR camera and equipment. Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office productivity software. Ability to use proper grammar and spelling. Knowledge and ability to manage social media content.
High school diploma or GED with coursework in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field and moderate experience in marketing or public relations including some experience in animal welfare, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates/Technical degree preferred.
